Reading Comprehension questions appear in sets; Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence questions are independent.

  • The verbal reasoning section of the test has two/three sub-sections of twenty questions each. The time allotted is 30 minutes for each section, which roughly means 1.5 minutes for each question. It is to be kept in mind that one should try to finish a question within 1-1.25 minutes. Besides, some questions could be completed in less than 1 minutes if they are easy enough to perceive then it will be helpful to utilize the time saved in questions with reading comprehension or 3 blank text completion questions.

 

  • One can use a strategy to answer the question with the small statement and 1 blank or 2 blank question, sentence equivalence and the small passage of reading comprehension and then use the review option later to answer the questions with large body and statements e.g.: reading comprehension with multiple paragraphs, 3 blank text completion questions. Time management Techniques for Quantitative Reasoning

  • The quantitative reasoning is also to be given with 2 or 3 sets of questions. If there are 3 sets of question then one of the sets will be the unscored. QR section is also scored on a scale of 130-170, in 1-point increments and so GRE is scored on a total scale of 260-340.  In a typical examination, each quantitative section consists of 20 questions to be completed in 35 minutes.

           Quantitative Reasoning contains 5 types of questions.

  1. Quantitative Comparison
  2. Single Correct Answer
  3. Multiple correct Answer
  4. Data or Numeric Entry
  5. Data Interpretation
  6. Each question appears either independently as a discrete question or as part of a set of questions called a Data Interpretation set. All of the questions in a Data Interpretation set are based on the same data presented in tables, graphs or other displays of data. QR is divided into 4 general portions to set the 5 types of questions: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry & Data Analysis.
  7. The quantitative reasoning section of the test has two/three sub-sections of twenty questions each. The time allotted is 35 minutes for each section, which roughly means 1.75 minutes for each question. It is to be kept in mind that some questions can be completed in 30 seconds or less especially in quant, while others, especially the Discrete Quant and Data Interpretation questions, will require some more work. One should target an average of 1.5 minutes per question. One can also try allocating time depending on the question type and speed with respect to the exam ambiance regarding own skill.
